Celebrating Birthdays and Becoming an Aussie Together
The September birthday girls: Bing Willott, Maribel Janssen, Vilma Lewis and Mona Guzman
A very successful combined September birthday party was held for members of the Filipino community of the Central West at the home of Vilma Lewis join with friends Bing Willott, Maribel Janssen and Mona Guzman. Big congratulations to Agnes Alborough and Mona Guzman taking Oath as new Australians with the new Bathurst Mayor Cr Gary Rush officiating.
Canberra Floriade 2013 with Ellis David Meacham
We visited the Floriadefestival at Canberra and were very impressed with the huge floral displays. We had never seen so many tulips in our lives. Great photo opportunity! We took the short cut through the mountains on a very scenic drive via Crookwell and its big wind farm. Parking at the Floriade was an issue with the need to park in the expensive Canberra Centre and ride on a shuttle bus. Next day we visited the Australian Museum and were far from impressed, but we did see the Melbourne Cup and have an excellent lunch. Unfortunately we discovered the ACT have very extensive speed Canberra coverage and are unsympathetic even to very minor transgressors. I suppose it is now part of the taxation process. On our return we stopped at Goulburn at the relocated ’Big Merino’, which is actually really big and weirdly impressive.
One of the best Spring Garden Spectacular and beautifully landscaped.
New Mayor for Bathurst
Newly naturalized Australians: Mona Guzman with new Bathurst Mayor Cr Gary RUsh and Agnes Alborough
Bathurst Councillors have elected Cr Gary Rush as the new Mayor. The previous incumbent Monica Morse was sympathetic to community and cultural issues. Gary seems more economic development oriented, but has always supported Filipino events as a Councillor and agent of our State Member Paul Toole. So Filipinos look forward to continued local government support for their activities in the region.
Stan Chown’s 60th Birthday
What a lovely celebration! People from as far as Young, Blayney, Orange and Cowra and all over the Central Tablelands as well as Canberra and Sydney came to Koorawatha to help Nida and Stan celebrate his 60th birthday. The venue was held at the Koorawatha’s town hall and there was a large crowd. It was great to catch up with friends that I don’t see very often. There was five large tables full of exotic food including roast pigs and other Filipino dishes which were supplied by guests who attended the party. It was a feast fit for a king. After the meal there was singing and dancing to be enjoyed. It was indeed a beautiful celebration. Everyone had a good time and enjoyed the lovely food. Thank you very much Nida and Stan for inviting me to your birthday and thank you for your hospitality and generosity.
