Vigan City – One of the 7th Wonder Cities of the World Nominee

The Philippine Consulate in Sydney has urged Filipinos and Friends of the Philippines during the Philippine National Day flag raising ceremony in Sydney on 15 June 2014 to participate in thet online voting for the Heritage City of Vigan to be one of the New Seven Wonder Cities of the World..

 

The global voting started in 2012 and of 1200 cities vying for the seven (7) posts, 28 cities have been shortlisted and Vigan City is one of the 28 Official Finalist Candidates.


Voting for the “ New7WondersCities” finalists continues through three phases:
28-21 phase: 21 October 2013 – 7 July 2014
21-14 phase: 7 July 2014 – 7 Oct 2014
14-7 phase: 7 Oct 2014 – 7 Dec 2014


Let us altogether join hands to have Vigan included in the prestigious roster of New 7 Wonders Cities.

According to Wikipedia, the City of VIGAN ( Ilokano: Ciudad ti Bigan, Tagalog: Vigan) is a fourth class


City in the province of Ilocos Sur, Philippines. It is the capital of the Province of Ilocos Sur.


The city is located on the western coast of the large island of Luzon, facing the South China Sea. According to the 2010 Philippines Census, it has a population of 49,747 people.


It is a World Heritage Site in that it is one of the few Hispanic towns left in the Philippines where its structures remained intact and is well known for its cobblestone streets, and a unique architecture that fuses Philippine and Oriental building designs and construction, with colonial European architecture, Former Philippine President Elpideo Quirino, the sixth President of the Philippines was born in Vigan.

 

Amongst its attractions are the Calle Crisologo at dawn, the famous Vigan longanisa, the Syquia Mansion, the Heritage River Cruise in Mestizo River, the Abel Weavers in action, Father Burgos’ House. Bantay Bell Tower and the Vigan City Festival.


A truly fascinating city in Northern Luzon and is very deserving of this recognition.
